The governors of Wood Street Infant School sadly decided to close Wood Street Pre-school in July 2011 as they wanted more space within the building for the Infant School. Though this was understandable, it was obviously very upsetting for the staff, parents and children.
After a long campaign against the decision and with huge amounts of support from Worplesdon Parish Council and Early Years at Surrey County Council, Tongham Daycare has taken on the pre-school that will be opening, pending the final sign-off from Ofsted and some last administrative decisions, in early October. It is situated at the Wood Street Cricket Club, just off of Frog Grove Lane. New signs will be up soon so that people know where the school is.
We feel so lucky that we have been able to successfully campaign for a affordable preschool for Wood Street, and that the fantastic team at Tongham were willing to do this for the community. The setting of the new school is idyllic and is really worth a visit if you can get over there. The two open mornings this week were very successful and there are lots of families that are keen to make use of this fabulous resource.
